Foraging Invasive Plants as Land Stewardship

Join long-time volunteers Matt and Shannon in a unique, hands-on way to care for our local ecosystem. You'll learn to identify and harvest invasive plants, like garlic mustard, dame’s rocket, mugwort, and wineberry, which are outcompeting native plant species, altering soil chemistry, and disrupting our local food web. These programs take place at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve from April through July.

As part of each foraging session, Matt and Shannon share delicious, creative recipes they've gathered and developed using these invasives. After learning how to identify these plants, participants head out into the Preserve with the FOPOS Stewardship Team to locate and remove these invasive plants. This work turns a conservation challenge into an opportunity for connection, stewardship, and good food.
