at the Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS)

Annual Meeting

Steve Hiltner will lead a walk through Mountain Lakes, Tusculum following the meeting.


Stephen Pacala, the Frederick D. Petrie Chair in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University and Director of the Princeton Environmental Institute, will be the speaker. Professor Pacala, who is also Co-Director of Princeton's Carbon Mitigation Initiative, will talk on “Playing Fair on Global Warming.”

Professor Pacala will speak after a very brief business meeting at which new trustees will be elected. Refreshments will be served. A walk through Mountain Lakes and adjacent Tusculum led by Stephen Hiltner, Natural Resources Manager for Friends of Princeton Open Space, will follow Professor Pacala’s talk. The meeting is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested by May 12; RSVP to Friends of Princeton Open Space, 609-921-2772.  The meeting will be held at the Mountain Lakes House, located in the Mountain Lakes Nature Reserve on Mountain Avenue (just off Route 206) in Princeton Township.

Professor Pacala received his Ph.D. in Biology from Stanford in 1982 and after ten years on the faculty at the University of Connecticut, he moved to Princeton in 1992. His research focuses on forests and the global carbon cycle. Princeton's Carbon Mitigation Initiative, which he co-directs with Robert Socolow, is focused on finding solutions to the greenhouse warming problem. He has received numerous honors and awards, including election to the National Academy of Sciences in 2007.
