NJ Department of Environmental Protection.  His topic:

Managing Natural Resources: A Primer to Smart Growth and to Forest and
Wetland Protection and Restoration

Marc A. Matsil, Assistant Commissioner for Natural and Historic Resources for the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, will be the featured speaker at the Annual Meeting of the Friends of Princeton Open Space on April 27.  The title of Mr. Matsil's address will be "Managing Natural Resources: A Primer to Smart Growth and to Forest and Wetland Protection and Restoration."

Marc Matsil was appointed Assistant Commissioner for Natural and Historic Resources in March, 2002. Prior to that he served as Chief of the NYC Parks Natural Resources Group, the nation's largest urban ecology program. Before joining NRG, Marc was a natural resources specialist for the U.S. National Park Service, including five years as a biologist at Noatak, Gates of the Arctic, and Aniakchak National Parks in Alaska.

Marc is the recipient of several awards for his contributions, including the Society for Ecological Restoration International Sperry Award, the Chevron-Times Mirror North America Conservation Prize, and the U.S. EPA/Environmental Law Institute National Wetlands Award.  Mr. Matsil holds a B.A. degree from Columbia University.
